Pointing at Dad

What's that?

What's that?

Baby J. has started pointing...at everything. She points at me, and she says "da". She points at her toys. She points at her mommy. She points at books. She points at the cats, the fireplace, the floor, the ceiling, the tables, the chairs, and so on. Every time she points, we tell her what she's pointing at. Is this building her vocabulary? Is she pointing because she wants to know what something is? Or is she pointing just to point? I keep wondering if one day, when she's able to pronounce more words, she'll suddenly burst out telling us what everything in the room is, as if all that pointing and all the times we told her what she was pointing at, actually built up this hidden vocabulary that was always waiting for the right opportunity to come out.

Then again, she's probably just pointing for the sake of point.

  1. Apparently Jonah used to do this, along with his first word “dat?”
